How to plan your enterprise mobile application development

The following suggestions will help you in developing the right mobile app for your business.

Always opt for cross-platform solutions

Unless you are planning to use the app in a particular mobile device or within a closed group, it is not wise to go for native apps. Hybrid apps, on the other hand, are cross-platform compatible and they can function on a variety of mobile devices. When your target audience is the general public, restricting the app to one platform isn’t a wise thing to do. In case, you want an enterprise mobile app for your employees and if you plan to provide them with a specific mobile device, then native app is the right choice for you. If you have BYOD system in place, then hybrid app is the choice.

Connectivity is highly significant for enterprise solutions

The efficient functioning of the app relies on consistency of the Internet connectivity. Often enterprise apps are integrated into the back-end that supports the app. So it is important choose carrier that provides quality and consistent internet connection.

Must have features in enterprise apps

While you can decide on how the app should interact with your back-end or on the functionalities that could lighten the burden of the processes, it is important to include a communication feature in the app. Some good examples include text messaging and video conferencing facility.

Mobile security is one other feature that should never be compromised, when it comes to enterprise mobile apps. Although developers set security policies and other restrictions during the development of the app, it is vital to protect the app using enterprise security solutions provided by reputed security solutions providers.

How mobile is your marketing? Are you smart phone ready?

Mobile email campaigns

This one is near and dear to my heart with so many people now reading emails on the go. It’s hard to find exact facts as it’s increasing dramatically every day and even more so with the younger demographic market. Most of our emails that are “one-on-one” convert automatically, but many of the services for permission email marketing to the masses with formatted pages are just catching up. It’s my mandate with all my providers to offer mobile or I choose another.

Fully functional mobile website

This one sound obvious right, but every day I find most websites are not mobile yet, not to mention fully functional on most smart phones.  What I’m suggesting is that many potential business customers are searching and viewing on mobile phones more than ever. If they can’t easily navigate your site, call you or contact you in a push of a button, they are likely searching for others where they can. Ouch, that hurts right! Navigating by pinching and expanding is just tedious and time-consuming on any phone. Sliding each page back and forth to read the text is simply irritating and frustrating. Taking it a step further, may I suggest that a business mobile site needs to be more than just readable; it needs to have one-touch ability to call, contact you and map your location.

Downloadable mobile apps

First of all, this one scares most people do to the huge cost once associated with custom app builders of the past. If you’re a small business there are some providers that offer basic solutions for a more affordable amount and will upload to the App Store and Goggle Play. Secondly, most people ask why they need to spend money an app with multi-platforms when their customers can just view the mobile site. They may seem similar, but there is some value in a downloadable app. Besides the sheer marketing exposure with an Apple or Android presence and being top of mind on your customer’s phone, features like direct communication with push messages, offline usage and phone hardware access with GPS and camera are a few that come to mind.

Mobile blogs

These are more common with blogs now, however you might want to make sure the theme you are choosing is mobilized. If you think emails and websites are hard to read, blogs with lots of content can be a nightmare pinching, expanding and scrolling back and forth as you read.

Mobile monitoring

Lastly but not least, most current companies that offer mobilized services offer a mobile app to download to you phone so you can monitor your successes and stats of your websites, blog posting and email campaigns. By the way, I just don’t “preach this stuff” I use the mobile monitoring all day and every day.

What are your thoughts and experiences?

RDS Biz Blogger

Like it or not we live in a mobile society! We can adapt to this “new-fangled technology”, simply ignore or reject it. The problem is that our business customers and clients are searching, reading, contacting and ordering from these devices. Got your attention right! Perhaps you may want to consider these areas of digital online marketing including mobile email campaigns, mobilized blogs, fully functional mobile websites, mobile apps and mobile monitoring.

Different steps in implementing BYOD

Enterprise mobile apps have the power to increase productivity and decrease production costs. Many businesses have begun to embrace mobility.

However, implementation of BYOD has to be done systematically. Since employees use mobile devices of their choice and comfort, choosing hybrid enterprise mobile app is the wisest thing to do. When properly implemented, enterprise mobile apps can speed up business processes and improve communication among employees, vendors, partners, and customers. For a better understanding of the implementation process, we have divided the process into three steps, thanks to innomobileapps mobility solutions for their inputs.

The first and foremost thing to consider while implementing BYOD is the security. Since important company data will be accessed using the personal devices of employees, the company will need an efficient Mobile Device Management (MDM) system. MDM can be used to control and protect the vital data of the company by setting configuration for mobile devices in the network. Once the system is in place enabling secure access to emails, calendars, and documents via personal mobile devices is the first step.

The second step involves in optimizing productivity through the app. It is wise to test waters before providing full access to employees. This is the stage where app development gets reactive. At this stage the company should create customized workflows and fix bugs reported by the employees. Complete training on how to utilize the mobility solution should be provided to the employees. Once things are in place the implementation should be tried and the increase in productivity should be measured. It is always better to keep the employees informed about the proactive security measures that the company would implement in critical situations.

The third step involves in taking advantage of the newly acquired mobility to increase security, productivity and cost reduction. At this stage companies should fine tune the internal security and workflow to speed up business processes. Better communication and stronger relationships are the keys to emerge successful in implementing BYOD. It is important to avail the help of enterprise mobile app developers and security experts in each step of implementation.

BYOD

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) is a concept that is gaining much popularity by the day. Both employees and employers feel comfortable with it. While employers are relieved of the burdensome investment on gadgets, employees have the freedom to work from anywhere. Moreover using the same mobile device for personal and official use gives the advantage of accomplishing both personal tasks as well as the official ones on the move.

Enterprise mobile apps have the power to increase productivity and decrease production costs. Many businesses have begun to embrace mobility.
